Use Vaava with no cloud at all
Everything on the phone, nothing on a server.
You can use Vaava without a cloud service, without an account, and without a connection. Leave Family Data Sharing off and nothing syncs to a server: the timeline lives in the app, logging works in airplane mode, and only the features you deliberately turn on need a network.
What works with the network off
Logging feeding, sleep, diapers, and your own custom event types all work without a connection, along with editing history, the calendar and trends, milestones, developmental tracking, Photo Book, and CSV export. None of it waits for a server to respond.
Free local Wi-Fi sharing and the local baby monitor work on a Wi-Fi network with no internet connection at all, because the two phones talk to each other rather than to a service. A router with no uplink is enough.
Vaava has no ads and does not sell your data, so staying offline does not cost you features that other apps give away in exchange for a connection.
The exceptions worth knowing
A few optional features connect online. Voice dictation and growth scan send a short payload to an AI parser to turn speech or a photo into an entry when you tap them, and the payload is not kept as part of your baby log. Vaava AI chat and the AI daily, weekly, and monthly digest summaries are also optional: before the first cloud AI request, the app explains the processing and asks for your permission. If you decline, no content is sent to a cloud AI provider and summaries stay in their standard non-AI form, and you can turn AI digest summaries off at any time in Settings.
Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing and remote baby monitoring are the online sync and streaming features, and both stay off until you set them up. Family Data Sharing stores an end-to-end encrypted copy so only your family's devices can read it, while remote monitoring sends encrypted live audio and optional video over the internet with nothing recorded or stored. If you want a strictly offline setup, do not set up Family Data Sharing or remote monitoring, do not use voice dictation or growth scan, and decline the AI permission prompt. Free local Wi-Fi sharing is not a cloud service, so leaving those off does not affect it.
The trade-off: no automatic backup
Without a cloud there is no cross-network sync and no automatic backup. Each device that holds the timeline holds its own copy of it, and if you keep Vaava on one phone only, that phone is the whole archive. That is the real cost of the offline setup, and it is worth deciding on deliberately.
The fix is free. CSV export writes the timeline to a file you choose the destination for, so you can keep a copy in your own storage on your own schedule. It is a manual step rather than a backup service, but it does not depend on Vaava being reachable.
If you later want a backup you do not manage
Vaava Plus Family Data Sharing is the answer, and it does not require an account on either phone. Content is encrypted on your device before upload, the service stores encrypted content and limited routing information, and nobody at Vaava can read the timeline or recover a lost key. That last part is why the recovery key needs to live somewhere safe outside the phone.
Turning it on does not change anything about the offline path. The free local pairing keeps working, the local monitor keeps working, and you can turn the cloud feature off again without losing either. What Family Data Sharing does without a login.

Does anything leave the phone if I stay offline?
Only if you use optional online features: Plus Family Data Sharing, remote monitoring, voice dictation, growth scan, or Vaava AI chat and summaries, which ask for permission first. Skip them and your baby data stays on your phone, and the free tier needs no network at all.
How do I back up an offline timeline?
Export it as CSV from the free app and keep the file wherever you like. For an automatic encrypted copy that restores on a new phone, enable optional Plus Family Data Sharing, which encrypts content on your device first and does not require an account.
Does offline mean only one phone can have the data?
No. Two phones can share the same timeline over your local Wi-Fi with no cloud involved. Offline means no server and no internet, not one device.
